DOUG HOAG, ’60, was an outstanding athlete in football, basketball, and track and earned a total of 8 varsity letters during his career at OFHS. As an offensive tackle, he was named to the Southwest Conference football team (1959) and received two varsity letters following an undefeated season. He was named the most improved player in basketball (1957-1958) and earned 3 varsity letters. In track he earned three varsity letters, qualified for State (1958 – 110 high hurdles and low hurdles), set a school record in high hurdles (15.9, 1958), and set a school record in discus (138 ft. – 1960). Doug attended Fairmont State College, where he played basketball and ran track, and later he was the head football Coach of St. Mary of the Falls (1964 – 1966). He was also a member of the OF Athletic Boosters, Music Boosters, and Kiwanis Club. He retired from US Airways in 1993 and he and his wife Kathy (Hirsch, OFHS Class of 1960) currently reside in The Villages, Florida. Their three grown children were all OFHS grads.
