OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTOR TO THE ATHLETIC PROGRAMS at OLMSTED FALLS HIGH SCHOOL
2005 Award Recipient ~ DR. WILLIAM MAHONEY

(Note:  This bi-annual award is being given for the first time this year; each year a new name will be added to the plaque that will hang on the Hall of Fame wall at the high school)

DR. WILLIAM MAHONEY moved to Olmsted Falls in 1961 to establish his Family Medical Practice and was immediately encouraged by Dr. Forrest Adams, the local Olmsted Falls physician, to become involved with the football team and serve as their physician.  Having been the recipient of a 4-year football scholarship to Case Western Reserve University, he was elated to assume this responsibility and did so faithfully for 30 years until his death in 1991.  Weather never deterred his presence from all home and away games, and he provided medical attention and care on the field, in his office or at home, not only to football players but also to those with injuries from other sports.  Dr. Bill was President of Athletic Boosters and Kiwanis and took every opportunity he could to promote the school and its sports programs.  He was a vital party in the organization of the “Land Grab” and “Hike for Lights” to raise money for the new stadium.  He served two terms as mayor of Olmsted Falls and seven years as Chief of Staff at Southwest General Hospital.  To this day, with the Bulldogs innumerable team successes, you can be assured that he is cheering all the teams and proud of their accomplishments.
