George Fischer, ’71, was the most diversified trackman that Olmsted Falls has ever produced. His specialty was the pole vault. He registered the best jump as a freshman in the history of the school with a leap of 12’0” and first broke the school record as a sophomore. By his senior year he had set a school and Southwest Conference record that would last for 27 years with a jump of 14’5”. Twice he was a SWC, District and Sectional champion. At the state level he placed 8th his junior year, and 6th his senior year, winning the State of Ohio Classic Track Meet as a senior. George holds the individual point record, scoring over 200 points in a season by combining his pole vault performances with 1st or 2nd place finishes in the high jump, long jump, and low hurdles. He was a 3-year letterman and the team’s MVP his senior year. While attending Baldwin Wallace college, he suffered a career-ending ankle injury his sophomore year. George and his high-school sweetheart, Ellen (Richards), ’73, live in Avon, Ohio, and have three children and 3 grandchildren.
