Kara Vassily, ’93, was a versatile three-sport athlete during her career as a Bulldog and received the school’s Outstanding Female Athlete award her senior year. She earned eight athletic letters, and was a four-year letter recipient in basketball, only the fifth in OFHS history to receive this honor. She was a SWC Scholar Athlete and a member of the National Honor Society. As Captain of the basketball team her senior year, she was selected Team MVP, 1st team All-SWC, 1st team All-District, and special mention All-Ohio, played in the Greater Cleveland Coaches Association All-Star Game, and placed 7th in all-time scoring for OFHS. Kara also lettered in soccer, co-captaining the first team in OFHS history; and was 1st team All-SWC in softball as shortstop, 2nd in team batting average, and team defensive player of the year in 1992. Kara continued her stellar athletic career at Mount Union College, was selected a three-time MVP in soccer, and was on their National Championship runner-up team in basketball. She resides in Oakland, CA, worked for many years as a project manager for non-profit organizations, and is now studying to be an EMT.
