Michael Gansey, ’01, played four years of varsity basketball for OFHS. During his career he set and still maintains the school career scoring record at 1,909 points. His teams won four straight Southwest Conference titles as well as two district championships. He was named SWC MVP three years, All-District player four times, and earned All-State honors three times. As a senior and team captain he was District Player of the Year, Ohio Division II Player of the Year, and runner-up for Ohio’s Mr. Basketball. He continued his athletic career at Saint Bonaventure University and then transferred to West Virginia University. At WVU he was 1st team All-Big East selection as well as a finalist for the John Wooden, James Naismith and Oscar Robertson awards. His teams advanced to an Elite Eight and Sweet Sixteen in consecutive years. He was also a gold medalist for the USA National Team in the World University Games in Izmir, Turkey. After college Mike has continued to play professional basketball in the NBA D-League and overseas in Italy, Germany, and Spain.
